Angry Birds Acceptance

Just don't replace the Cuccos in Zelda with
these guys please.
Angry Birds used to make me angry. Recently after playing Angry Birds Trilogy on 3DS, I have come to actually enjoy Angry Birds. What caused this change of heart?

Originally I never thought I would buy Angry Birds Trilogy, $30 for three games worth less than $5 together bought on their orignal platforms. The thing was, I could buy it for $5 with a sale and coupon at GameStop. Being a sucker for a good game deal I bought it and I have actually been enjoying it.

What had always turned me off from Angry Birds was it is mainstream appeal. Something about soccer moms enjoying this game as much as I enjoyed Mario Kart made me upset. I felt like it was an invasion on my hobby. I have never been a video game "hipster" but I was the kind of guy who laughed when someone asked me if I had heard about the new Nintendo system. The one coming out in two weeks, the one I had known about for over two years, the one I originally knew as Project Cafe.

The other thing that made me upset were articles stating Angry Birds was bigger than Mario. I mean how dare they take a proverbial dump on a gaming icon. Well I got over these kind of link bait articles.

Now I actually enjoy Angry Birds. Sure I'm late to the party but I only recently realized what I was missing. The simplistic but sometimes challenging gameplay with the mix of cute characters got me hooked. Sure, games like this have existed online before, but nothing ever as charming as this.

I do still think Angry Birds Trilogy is too expessive considering the price of its source material. Considering how much fun I have had with it I would have gladly paid $30 for it.

Now I find my self hoping that Angry Birds Star Wars will come to dedicated gaming consoles. I am a big Star Wars fan and the idea of Angry Birds mixed with "the Wars" sounds like fun. I even got a Han Solo Angry Bird plush.

I do love a good plush toy, I KNOW I sound like I'm 6.
So have I turned over to the dark side? Have I gone crazy and betrayed my gaming brethren? Leave a comment and tell me what you think.

  1. I've never played this series but I've always wanted to. I don't own the mobile devices Angry Birds is one so this 3DS trilogy is my best bet to see what all the hoopla is a bout.
